Breaking my hymen

Hey, I'm a virgin and I can't get anything into my vagina and I think my hymen is causing it. It's kind of inconvenient because I can't use tampons or anything b/c I can't get them in. My question is, how can I break my hymen, or could I ask a doc (like the gyno) to break it for me? Thanks

So you want to break your hymen so you can fit a tampon in your vagina? Not a good idea.I don't think a gyno would break your hymen on request either. There are ways to break your hymen(which I think is not a bright idea):

1)Have sexual intercourse with a guy which will cause him to break your hymen if he goes too deep.

That would work, except that I plan on using tampons NOW and losing my virginity AFTER marriage. I think it just might be too thick for me to break or fit anything through just by my own trying..I've been trying for years now...Thanks for the suggestion, but being a Christian Southern Baptist girl, I'm waiting for my husband until I have intercourse.

GO GIRL! Wait till marriage! Hey! I live in the south too and I'm a baptist girl too! BTW if you use a tampon still, you wont lose your virginity, it just strenchs your hymen a little bit, nothing serious:D

Yeah, I know I won't lose it that way....I can't get the tampon in... That's really my only problem. I'm a premedical biology major, so I know a lot about "stuff," but I just can't get anything in...I figured it would stretch at least to let me get in a finger or something, but alas, I can get not a thing in. I was thinking about just going for a pelvic and seeing if the doc can get the speculum in...

Whoa! Breaking your hymen is nothing to rush into. Rememebr you can never get it back if you change your mind later.

I myself went through the inconvenience of not being able to use tampons, but I'm very glad I waited. Because when I finally lost my hymen (at 22) it was with the perfect man that will now forever know, without any doubt, that I was a virgin.

Think of it this way...what if the 'do-it-yourself' mentality was reversed? For example: down the road you are with the perfect guy at perfect time and want to please him in an intimate way--but instead of being flattered, he says, "No thanks, I jacked off before I came over."

That probably would make you fell too special, would it?

Save it for a special guy, you have nothing to lose by waiting. :)

I really don't care...Some girls don't even have a hymen, and I really don't care if mine's missing, as long as I know why it's missing and what happened to pop it (if it were there in the first place). I'm not going to have intercourse to pop it or anything; I just don't want it there. I mean, I wouldn't have like mental pangs about it or whatever...it's not so much as I don't want to look like a virgin; I just don't want it there in the first place and it bugs me.

I felt the same way too, I hated my hymen and wanted to wear tampons. I was going to break my own with my fingers or a dildo. But, my mom's friend, who is a gyno, explained that doing it yourself can damage sensitive nerve endings and take pleasure out of sex later on.

So, I went out and found a guy to do the deed. (not what my mom's friend meant for me to do. she would kill me if she knew that) He was a jerk, but now i'm with someone great and the sex is fantastic. My friend is also sexually active, but she tore her own with a dildo and she says sex isn't that great, and hardly ever has an organsm, so I guess it is true.

Find a guy to break your hymen, cause good sex is worth it.

About some girls not having a hymen...

This was written by Flip in another post, but I think it is accurate:

It is true that many women break their hymen through some activity (rough sports, tampons, etc.), sometimes without even knowing it.

But this line about some or many girls being born without one has got to stop! The hymen is a biologic fact of the female anatomy. It is remotely possible to be born without one, but it is only about as probable as being born with one breast. You have a better chance of being struck by lighting a couple times than being born without a hymen!

(It's still a great excuse if you want to lie about being a virgin, though )

Well, as a premedical biology major, I know there can be a dimished hymen or that it APPEARS to be absent; I wasn't necessarily meaning there isn't one at all, but if you know how the hymen is formed during prenatal development, it's possible that the membrane is there but acutally did separate completely before the baby was born. Before that, there is no opening to the vagina; therefore we have all the different types of hymen, including some that never did form the opening (imperforate) and the cribriform and the likewise. It's also true that some women that engage in intercourse indeed do still have an intact hymen. A big problem lies in those hymen that aren't the annular type, when it comes to tampons and the such I mean. I could go on forever, but I realize I'm not in class trying to make sure I get the answers right on an exam. Lol. But a hymenectomy/hymenotomy sounds really good to my ears about now.

same boat...

I totally understand!!!
I want to use tampons too!! But I can't because of my stupid hymen. The big thing for me is... Pads SUCK!!! I feel like I am sitting on diaper all day and I hate the feeling!
I've tried to pop it but I guess I am a whimp and have a super low pain tolerance!! I just can't do it. Gah, why couldn't the GYN do it?!
This hymen thing is literally driving me up the wall!!!

Getting rid of your hymen

There really is no substitute to having a man break your hymen, unfortunately. That is the only way you can be sure of the angle of entry, and the arousal of vaginal muscles stretching the hymen the right way to avoid bad tears that will mess a sex later on, or damage sensitive nerve endings. (Popping your own can have about the same effect on your vagina as being forcibly raped.)
Being too insecure to ever talk with a guy about sex, I had no prospects to lose my hymen, and thought about asking the gyno or doing it some mechanical way. But, thankfully found the right man through this site. (No, not one of the pervs that replied to my post, but a guy introduced to me by another girl on this site, who also lost he virginity with him.) She said he was awesome and gentle, but forgot to mention he was so cute. I do wear tampons now and, feel like a new person!

Re

There's a certain trick to sucessfully learning how to get in a tampon. It really doesn't matter if you still have a hymn and you've never put anything inside you. I couldn't get in tampons for the longest time but then i found a way to stretch the vagina..yet my hymn is still completely intact and putting in a tampon is now painless. First, you have to practise with your finger right after masterbating. Do it directly after you orgasm and when you're very wet. Start with one finger and progress from there. Once you're use to exploring the area with your fingers, you'll know the angle and shape of your vagina and then have no problem getting in a tampon. It's easiest if you do it right after an orgasm or when you're aroused and wet because you're body is most relaxed and your vagina ballons out and expands.(gets larger) Stretching the area doesn't break the hymn, it just makes it more comfortable to get objects in and might make first time sex less painful. Plus I think it's good to explore your body like that before you have sex anyway.

dont have to have sex!

my friend had a double hymen and had trouble with tampons, then she got surgery to break it, and now its all good. thats all i really know about her situation, cuz its not like something she was totally willing to share. but she went to the gyno and got it taken care of. being faithfully LDS (mormon), having sex before marriage or masturbating was never an option, and it goes to prove that it doesnt have to be an option for anyone else! just go to the doctor!

It's not that far up...You can take a mirror and see it. It's at the opening of the vagina (not the opening of the vulva).

Hymenectomy/Hymenotomy

Women can get their hymen cut or removed....Sometimes it's necessary; sometimes women do it just so they can get in tampons, etc. Anyone can have it though; just tell the gynecologist.

Don't do it.

I agree, I wouldn't believe it anyway.

I agree with the other posters. Don't break it.

Wait for your husband. You will be glad you did, it will be nice because he doesn't have anything to break. Like another poster said, what if he had masturbated instead of wanting to have sex with you?
I'd never marry a woman that didn't have a hymen.
Especially if she said she had broke it herself.
That's just wrong and doesn't show respect for your future husband.
If you're a Christian you won't do it.

If you're wondering I'm a Christian. (Independent Baptist)

Its her decision not yours!

Scribe, it just so happens that sometimes the hymen is overly thick, has too small an opening or formed incorrectly and surgery is a necessity. Have a little empathy. The hymen in such circumstances can be excessively painful or even impossible to penetrate by normal means.

I'd never marry a woman that didn't have a hymen.
Especially if she said she had broke it herself.
That's just wrong and doesn't show respect for your future husband.
If you're a Christian you won't do it.

I'm sorry but you sound a little pigheaded when you say such things. I understand that you think that a hymen shows purity but the hymen doesn't necessarily break during intercourse. Also (and this is the reason you sound pigheaded) don't say that just because some one is a christian that they will or will not do something. That is being overly judgemental and I know thats something you didn't learn from being a Christian. A parallel would be saying that if your a Christian you wouldn't wear clothes since we only wear clothes because of our sinful nature.

It is great to have a strong set of beliefs but don't be overly forceful or try to scare people into feeling the same way. You will find out that you push more people away than you bring to your side doing such things.

Im sorry if I have offended you. That is not the point of this or any of my posts. I just think that maybe you should try to see things from another person's point of view before you decide to judge them or even offer advice. I am a Christian as well and can see many of the points you have made in some of your posts but sometimes you seem to get a little carried away. Thats not always a bad thing but sometimes it can be.

.

Sorry but no female should break their hymen unless it is fully blocking their vagina and they can't pee or menstrate through it.
(which is very rare)
Seems others agree with me about not breaking it.
I've read where other guys have said they would leave their girlfriends or wives if they said they were a virgin and didn't have a hymen. I tend to agree.

first of all the hymen will not block the urethra and thereby will not obstruct the flow of urine. Thats kind of a separate part. Now back to the point I was trying to make before. I understand how you feel about not wanting a woman to break her own hymen but thats not really what I was talking about in my previous post. What I was trying to get across is that women have a particularly thick or small hymen that can be impossible to break through normal intercourse. in such an instant it is preferable for a woman to see a gynocologist. There is no point in her going through the extra pain and anguish of feeling like there's something wrong with her or feeling like she failed her husband.

I just don't necesarily feel the same way about a woman not having a hymen. When I meet my future wife, I hope to be able to have enough trust in her that she will be honest with me. I'm not going to base my future relationship on a little flap of skin. (just a little FYI here. The hymen is not to dissimilar from the foreskin of a mans penis.)

hymen incident...

so when i was 15 i found out i had a septate hymen. unfortunately i found this out because i couldn't get my tampon out and was (yes, embaressingly enough) rushed to the hospital. i kind of knew about it before hand because i had trouble getting my tampons out, but then the last time it was just so bad. so it was more serious than the dr thought and i had to be put under anesthesia and what not. so it was a really bad experience in that way, but i've now had a boyfriend for over a year and i'm ready to have sex..the worst part about this hymen is that i can't use tampons and..although it's possible to have sex,i'm afraid it will hurt and that his penis will get stuck..i know it sounds crazy but if a tampon got stuck, can't a penis?...i guess not cause i read other stories but i'm still scared. ive talked too my parents about having a hymenoctomy surgey(i hope i spelt it right) because the dr felt i was too young to do it when i was 15..my parents have been talking about it and see where i'm coming from because i think its totally unfair and i feel like i total mutant because i didnt know anyone else who had this problem.

so my question is, if i'm allowed, should i go through with the surgery? or, should i have sex and it will break then?but then im afraid that it will hurtt sooooo bad..so yeah if anyone can help me out...please i'd appreciate it.

answering ur question

'Women can get their hymen cut or removed....Sometimes it's necessary; sometimes women do it just so they can get in tampons, etc. Anyone can have it though; just tell the gynecologist.
~diva, premed biology major~'

that is true in some cases is nesesary to remove the hymen or make a hole on it ( imperforated hymen, is patologic), get a bigger hole in ur hymen depends of what kind of hymen have u got, for example in an hymen with only one hole ( annular hymen) is easier to do it u need only introduce a thin finger in the entrance of ur vagina and pull slowly the borders of ur hymen in direction of ur legs first to the right then to the left, then to ur pubis, do it carefully, if u fell pain u must to stop, u need to do it every times as it would be posible and in a couple o weeks u will get a bigger hymen hole, without hurt u and without medical intervention. of course wah ur hands before to do this exercices. annular or ring hymen are the most common kinds of hymns.

in other kinds of hymen could be more difficult to do this kind of execises.

if u have got other consults only write me to tautologia19@hotmail.com im oneil, medicine student, young like u, and with all the confidence i will answer ur questions.
kisses

here is a pic of kinds of hymen

hymen broken

i went to the doctor and he had me a nurse to insert the catheter because my friend was a virgin. the nurse did not know where her viginal opening was and her ureter opening. so she was trying to get it in, but she couldnt. after a while they got it in. but she stood up and there was blood in the sheets.

she doesnt know why this happen. so she thinks they damaged her hymen. is that what happened?
i asked people who might know and they said it didnt but why did she bleed?

re:

I got a hymenectomy, and I also have vulvodynia (a severe case), interstitial cystitis (severe), and I had a vaginal cyst removed that weighed almost a liter...so I have worse issues than a tough hymen...WAY worse issues.

The doc agreed that my hymen was abnormal, and we decided to do the hymenectomy/hymenotomy in 2005. We went ahead and it's not an issue now. He cut and scraped it out. He couldn't get it to stretch; he couldn't even get a pinky in. I still cannot use tampons and such because of the severe vulvodynia however.

I'm a (human) biologist, and I'm on my way to grad school. I'd forgotten about this site, but got an email notification that I had new replies. I thought I'd come back and take a look. :)

Don't touch your hymen!

It's a bad idea to try to damage your own hymen. It is there for a very good reason (why do you think 99.999999% of women have one?). The hymen is nature's way of protecting the woman's vagina, uterus and especially cervix (the site of many cancers) from airborne and other pathogens that could cause infection or damage to her reproductive integrity. Nature intended for the hymen to only be broken/removed upon a woman's first sexual encounter. Since birth control is unknown to Nature, it wouldn't take long for a healthy, fertile woman to fall pregnant after first having sex. During the time of pregnancy, she would have a cervical plug of very thick mucus protecting the developing baby. And after the baby's birth, well... if she got an infection afterwards which resulted in infertility or even death, at least she had passed on her genes to one offspring, ensuring the continuity of the human species.

So you see, the hymen is an important part of a woman's anatomy, with a very specific function, as much as the vagina, the uterus and every other part of the body. You should not tamper with it, even for the sake of 'comfort'. These days there are so many options available for menstrual protection, it shouldn't be necessary to even resort to tampons. Go for ultra-thin pads, or use ultra thins in conjuction with mini-tampons. You could also use a tightly rolled up tissue as an external tampon with a normal pad. A period only lasts a few days anyway, that's hardly a great chunk out of your life. The only time a woman should consider surgery on her hymen is if it completely blocks the entrance to the vagina and causes problems menstruating.

Hymen

If a girl didn't say anything (or that she IS a virgin) and then she didn't have the hymen, I would believe that it got broken accidently.

And if she admits that she did a big mistake and had sex with some other "one single" guy before, I would just ask how old was she then, and if she was really intimate with that man, and still forget/forgive about the past.

If she says that she got it broken by herself, I would certainly think bad about her. It is like this: now someone said that it is her choice.. But then someone can still say that it was her choice to have sex with another guy before.. :D

I'm not a virgin, neither a christian, but I have certain values.. and there are certain things I value. Truthfulness is on the top of the list. I can't digest it if a girl says that she got it broken by herself..

I say break it, haha!

That business about breaking your own hymen leading to nerve damage sounds ridiculous to me. So, if you get it broken by some random guy you barely know, is "safe" and better?? Please. And I see no reason why a doctor wouldn't break it for you -- if the dr won't, then I'd get another dr. A lot of people break them accidentally - playing sports or whatever -- and they DO NOT suffer nerve damage later on in life. Breaking it is breaking it. If you have a thick or tough hymen that is resistant to breaking, I'd actually advise breaking it yourself -- that's what I did. And yeah -- it hurt -- a lot haha -- I won't lie -- and there was quite a bit of blood -- but it's quick. There's no way I could have stood someone inflicting that kind of pain on me -- when you do it yourself -- you control the situation and the amount of pressure - you feel like there's just no way it will break - it hurts -- and the pop -- it's torn. If you have a hymen that's easy to break and relatively painless, then maybe it's romantic to have it happen during sex -- but when it's thick and it hurts and there's a fair amount of blood -- no - to me that's not romance, haha -- and hymen or no hymen you're STILL a virgin until you have intercourse. :-)

I'm sorry

But all of this is such bull*hit. "pathogens could get in" and the whole "I wouldn't want to be with a women who broke her hymen, respect your future husband" makes me want to punch a wall. PLEASE. It's your body, do what you want with it. If your hymen is bothering you and it's in the way of whatever is in the way for you, remove it (or don't). ... but it's ridiculous to tell people it's IMMORAL to break it.

I stretched mine out. ... and then got two yeast infections so I couldn't masturbate anymore for a while. and now it's thick again. this sucks. I'm extremely tempted to cut it myself with ton of hydrogen peroxide.
